Architecture
Designed by Montreal firm Provencher Roy, the new Ritz-Carlton is expertly planned to incorporate the iconic original façade designed by New York’s Warren and Wetmore, while showcasing some of the finest contemporary design seen in Montreal and around the world.
Many of the exquisite exterior details of the original Ritz-Carlton will serve as leitmotifs for the interior design of its residences. The intricate stone molding, which will be restored to perfection on the exterior, will be echoed on the interior. The delicate string of stone pearls that snake around the building are the inspiration for the elegant circular design in the marble flooring of the lobbies, while carefully restored pieces of the original façade will adorn the wall opposite the private residential elevators. Every last detail is in keeping with the standards and sensibilities of the original Ritz-Carlton.
Following the restoration and conversion of a sizeable portion of the original building, an elegant structure of steel and glass will grace the roof and western face of the building. This new residential wing will discreetly revive and enliven the already unique character of the original Ritz-Carlton.
"In both cases, we wanted to preserve the essence of The Ritz-Carlton that Montrealers have known and loved for nearly a century now, while at the same time elevating its offering to current standards within the international luxury hotel industry."
– Claude Provencher, Project Architect
